I don't think that it's like A.N.T. Farm at all. However, it did have a GLC feel to it. In this first episode I think that the writers were trying to live up to the hype of it being an older show, but came across as kinda forced. I think that Debby had to carry the show a bit, which is to be expected for a first time out with a new group of people. The cast still has some time to grow and like I said earlier, I liked it.

pwfan,

Those are fair points. To me GLC feels very much like "Step By Step" or "Family Matters". All of those shows are family comedies which is exactly what "Jessie" is. Debby definitely did carry the first episode and as the star of the show that's basically her job. Personally, I think she did a fantastic job too. :D

What surprised me the most was how well Debby handled all of the physical comedy. There was lots of physical comedy in SLOD but it was mostly the adults that performed it, especially Phill Lewis, Erin Cardillo and Wendell D. Middlebrooks (who played "Kirby" the security guard). From what I see so far I think Debby is doing an excellent job with it.

This is one area that the cast of Wizards really excelled with because they had David Deluise. His father, the late great Dom Deluise pretty much wrote the book on physical comedy. Dom Deluise was a legendary comedian. I've heard several interviews with Selena who said everything she learned about physical comedy came from David Deluise. It's a skill that needs to be learned and it's not easy but I think Debby is doing fantastic so far.

Luis,

We're going to have to agree to disagree because I'm not even going to attempt to argue that point further. In my opinion "Jessie" is NOTHING like "A.N.T. Farm".

I still think we need to see a few more episodes before we can really make serious comparisons to other shows.

And for the record, I haven't seen anything seriously lacking with A.N.T. Farm's writing

Which is why, initially, I am comparing "Jessie" to GLC. The writers of GLC wanted it to be that family comedy that would have looked common place in the TGIF lineup back in the day. While "Jessie" may not be 100% in this model, having Pamela Eells O'Connell at the helm certainly begs the comparison between "Jessie", GLC, and those great old school classics.

I found the Pilot to be very good an refreshing!

first of all I think comparisons to ANT Farm is really unfair. a new episode of ANT Farm was on right before the premiere of Jessie and I literally sat through it with nothing more than a couple "Chuckles"...on the other hand I was hungover laughing during Jessie.

most of us here are above Disney's TARGET age group. that group would be the 6-11 and 9-14 age groups. they would by default cast more characters in those age groups so they can interest those same demographics. that is a reason why is can "feel" like ANT Farm because the majority of it's main characters are 13 or under.

the thing that sets Jessie apart is "Jessie" herself and Bertram. plus the parents when they are around.Plus the writing is A LOT better.

Bertram is a character that I hope gets a lot of screen time! i have been watching "The Nanny" and Niles(the butler) has some of the best lines ever!!
he's not ALWAYS speaking, but when he has lines they are good! if Bertram in even 1/10 like what Niles was he can be a REALLY good comedic aid to the show!

I thought the show really did have "something for everyone" there where some jokes that where aimed at kids, but there where others that weren't . one that comes to mind is when Jessie talks about how she can't take on 4oz of soap on an airplane but Ravi could take his lizard. now unless I am wrong a 10 yr old kid would not really get that...but us older one's who know about airport security and etc. would.

as far as the Jessie theme song,I liked it!!
some don't like it at all and others love it.
I literally played it back 3 times on the DVR and all of my siblings where singing it!

Overall I would give the Pilot of JESSIE 4.8 out of 5.

I watched the Pilot with my 11 and 9 yr old sisters and 6 yr old brother. My sisters have both said it is their new favorite Disney show. By brother said it is his favorite behind phineas and Ferb:D

I also found the numbers for WOWP and ANT FARM.

Wizards had 3.0 Million viewers.(8:00pm)
ANT Farm had 3.3 Million Viewers.(8:30pm)
Jessie had 4.6 Million Viewers.(9:00pm)
Phineas and Ferb had 4.1 Million Viewers.(9:30pm)

oh and Jessie was 6th most watched on cable on Fri Sept 30th just behind the MLB games and WWE FriNight Smackdown.

To see it laid out like that really just got me excited. :D "Jessie" dominated the DC prime time slots and ran away with it. Not to mention she was competing with playoff baseball too. To be in the top 10 cable shows on your TV debut is awesome. I am getting more confident by the day in "Jessie"

I'm very surprised to see that "Jessie" beat Wizards and I'm totally in shock  that "A.N.T. Farm" beat Wizards. If one is to interpret those ratings DC should be producing more shows like "Jessie" aimed at an older demographic. Of course last week was the premier, it will be more interesting to get the numbers for EP2 to see how many people tune back in.

What DC, Debby and Pamela have done by green lighting "Jessie" is OUTSTANDING! Now we know why they ordered additional episodes without even airing the first one. The testing of the initial episodes must have been off the scale.

Wizards has dropped a bit in it's 4th season. While still hitting 4 - 5 million in a few episodes more episodes are dropping into 2 to mid 3 Million....

Brody Barton,

I'm giving you an assignement. When you can please find and post the numbers for this week's (10-7-11) Friday night lineup on DC. There is no doubt in my mind that "Jessie" is a spectacular success for DC, I'm just curious to see how many viewers will tune in for EP2.
